Current roadmap
Hi all, just going to start this dev log by saying thank you for all of the support and criticism of the game, I’m genuinely so happy to see all of the gameplay down in the comments, whether praising the game or criticising it, every piece of feedback is useful to ensure the game develops into something worth playing.
I’ve been thinking of the next steps for this project, and have decided on a rough sort of roadmap for the game and it’s future. The roadmap is as follows:
V0.3
- Optimising the code: Boring, yes, but crucial. The game has some pretty messy code and in order to retain any sort of sanity for developing the rest of the game, I will need to keep the code consistent.
- Fixing textures: I have noticed some textures aren’t 100% to the standards I want, for example, there must be some sort of compression for the hinge doors by the counter, as their texture appears green rather than black.
- Adding/replacing sounds: Some sounds such as the hinge door (again) aren’t something I am satisfied with, and definitely want to change. I would also like to add some random sound events throughout and possibly even subtle music to make the atmosphere appear slightly better.
V0.4
- Add some sort of game settings: Currently, the game has no settings, and since I haven’t been developing one throughout, I’ll need to explore the possibility of graphical settings before trying to implement it, after all, this is my first game, definitely a learning curve for me, however I would at least like some sensitivity and volume sliders at the minimum.
- Improve the menu: The menu currently is bland and I would preferably like more of a moving background rather than a still one with VHS effects, and generally I’d just like to make it appear more professional.
- Sprinting: I’ve had some feedback, especially from friends, about the speed of which the character moves and have decided to implement a sprint feature to try and prevent the game being a walking simulator, particularly for the first night.
V0.5 - Beta
- Night 2: Probably the only update people may actually care about, this will be the update that includes the second night and all the features that will come with it, although I won’t go into too much detail about some ideas I have for Night 2, I have definitely realised that The Shadow will need to develop some new tactics instead of using the same old mechanics, but faster.
These are the updates I’ve chosen to focus on for now, I can’t give any sort of possible date for any of these updates, however I can promise that I will be constantly updating this development log. The truth is I shouldn’t have released this game in its current state, especially V0.1, which was broken in such a deal-breaking way. I promise each and every update from now will be properly tested for bugs before being sent out.
To anyone, present or future that’s following this game’s progress, I want to thank you, you’re all making my dream of becoming a game-developer come to life. I appreciate every single one of you.
