The Silver Screens Final Build Released! + Update
Hey all,
As you may or may not have noticed, I've been gone for almost a year, however, I've decided that now is the time to put this project to rest.
I started developing The Silver Screens as a small lockdown project, and I found it especially useful because I was learning game development in college, and developing this game allowed me to stay on top of my studies. I had every intention of seeing it through to the end, but as you know, that didn't happen, until today.
The truth is, once V0.5 had released containing the final two nights, I subconsciously started putting the game aside, even though there was definitely more work to do. I continued putting off the project, and one Windows reinstall later, I had lost most of the tools I used to make the game in the first place, and every slight jolt of inspiration to continue development was immediately shut down with thoughts of "I'd have to reinstall this, I'd have to reinstall that" etc, however, I didn't believe that this game had the closure it deserves. Even though I've been gone for a year, the game never left my mind.
Luckily, I had done enough work on it to warrant a public release, however, I never got around to compiling it all, the raw files have just been sat in a google drive folder since July last year. I finally gathered enough inspiration to compile the game and release it today, with the game's one-year anniversary coming up in just under a month.
I do apologize for not providing any updates, and I hope today's release will finally put this game to rest in my mind, and to anyone reading, thank you for sticking around :)
With that all being said, this game isn't my perfect vision of the final release. I had originally intended on completely redesigning the shadow, redoing the jumpscare and anything surrounding that, however as mentioned, never got around to doing it. I did, however, manage to add a free play 'Night 4' for anyone to play and enjoy. This night uses the Night 1 map combined with the Night 2 mechanics. There is an optional backpack in the safe room for upgrading the maximum item count to 20.
The final version also hasn't had much extensive testing, except a quick playthrough of all four available nights by myself. No immediate bugs or issues, however, your play-through may vary, please bear that in mind.
I also didn't feel comfortable releasing this untested version by itself, which is why I've also decided to keep V0.5 up for download, along with every other previous version, even the awful mess which was V0.1. These are now known as the 'Legacy' versions.
I thank you all sincerely for taking an interest in my game. I do also have a little surprise waiting for May 2nd, which is The Silver Screen's anniversary, so keep your eye out for that ;)
As always, if there are any issues regarding the game or installing it, please feel free to email me at beastybevan@gmail.com
