The Silver Screens V0.4 released
The Silver Screens » Devlog
Hi all, Firstly, I'm going to apologise for the lack of communication over the past week. I'd promised to get this update released "within a few days" but that was about a week ago. I've just had to balance the development of the game with my college work, but I wanted to get it out ASAP, and now it's here!
For those wondering, here's the changelog:
- Head bobbing - I decided one way I could make the game feel smoother is by including a head bob, which definitely improves the overall experience.
- Sprinting - This is a feature that was planned since V0.2. It makes those boring hallway journeys a lot shorter. The sprint has a cool down and makes the head bob slightly more aggressive, while pointing the flashlight slightly downwards. Sprint by pressing left shift. There is also now a sprinting tip the start of the level alongside 'Press "F" to toggle flashlight".
- Options menu - For now, the options menu only consists of a game quality setting, and a sensitivity slider. There is definitely room for improvement there, however things such as audio would need to be completely re-worked to add a properly working volume slider. This game is definitely a learning-curve for me, apologies for the inconvenience. I'll definitely see about including one in the near future.
- Working save system - Could you believe that the previous versions don't have any sort of save system? For the options menu, I needed to create a system that would save your preferred settings, and so I decided to make the night-saving system properly, which saves making it in the next update. I also realised anyone wanting to play the further nights may need to re-play the nights before it, as the save files are stored locally in the game folder. I will be looking into that.
- Various other bug fixes - One major bug fix is that sometimes the objectives would not progress into the next screen. This was fairly hard to replicate, however I did still manage to replicate it a couple times, of which I overhauled the objective system, and haven't managed to replicate it since. I can only imagine that it's fixed. if anyone encounters this again, please contact me.
Now here's the news for anyone who doesn't care about these small updates: Granted there is no game-breaking bugs that need fixing in the meantime, the next update will include Night 2!
Thanks to everyone for your continued support :)
